After the unexpected loss of my sweet, non-barking, people loving, 9-year-old yorkie named Gracie in 2023, I told myself I needed a break from dogs-that the loss was too heartbreaking and that I couldn't put myself through the pain that comes from loving so greatly. Well, that plan lasted a solid 2 months. As the story goes, my poor boyfriend Brad had a horrible stomach bug this one weekend and was staying in our guest room to try to spare me from getting sick. Well, left to my own devices and I mean literally scrolling my phone device in bed, I just happened upon a Kijiji ad (happened upon might be a slight exaggeration) where a lady was selling Yorkiepoo puppies here in Newfoundland. Well... my heart fell instantly for this one little girl. Black and tan color with the darkest little beady eyes that just spoke to my soul. I thought to myself, I'll just enquire about her, see if she is still available, not like I'm committing to getting her. Well, the next morning I received a message back, with more pictures to say she was available, and she was such a friendly, sweet and playful little girl already. Well, that was all I needed. I was instantly obsessed. Immediately I contacted an old friend of mine who lived in the area and that I could trust to give a true opinion, as this little puppy was located about 4.5 hours away from me. She went to go check out the home, the dogs, the conditions and to see if she was as sweet as they said. When she arrived, she facetimed me so that I could see the puppies live. Needless to say, the rest is history lol.
Audrey is now two years old, and we cannot picture life without her. While she could never replace the place Gracie still holds in my heart, she doesn't have to-she fills her own special part. She is loved beyond words and spoiled just as greatly. She makes us smile every single day and was absolutely meant to be ours.
If you ever wondered if loving another fur baby as fully as you did a previous pet is possible, bringing back that joy and unconditional love that only a pet can give again? The answer is 100% yes.
